Just in time for Brazilians to get all social and tweety about how well their nation’s team is doing in the World Cup, Motorola has announced their MOTOBLUR-driven squat and square Android known as the FLIPOUT for the South American country (why they insist on BILLY MAYS-ing all of their product names is beyond me). There isn’t a whole lot to add that hasn’t already been said about the device , and it should be available by mid-July at an unspecified price. Press Release : Motorola launch in Brazil the FLIPOUT™ with MOTOBLUR™: a stylishly square & pocket perfect mobile Multi-touch screen pivots to reveal QWERTY keypad on company’s latest Android 2.1 smartphone June 30, 2010 Sao Paulo, Brazil – June, 30th – Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced the Motorola FLIPOUT™ with MOTOBLUR™, a stylishly square and compact smartphone that’s as individual as its users. The smartphone will be available in Brazil by the first half of July and will retail at R$ 999. Android-based NEC LifeTouch tablet a technological “Ugly Betty”

While it is exciting to see Android-based tablets being announced and coming to the general public, to quote a common phrase, true beauty is on the inside. This is a great way to describe NEC’s LifeTouch tablet, because while it’s innards are based on our favorite mobile OS, it’s exterior is… less than gorgeous, to say the least. With it’s ARM Cortex A8 processor, 7″ screen and Android 2.1, this tablet is supposed to be released in Japan in October, but mainly to businesses, which may be why NEC paid a little less attention to the aesthetics of this little guy. Either way, if you’re looking for an Android based tablet… this is still an option. Nintendo DS like Android-based tablet PC

What you’re looking at here is the Lifetouch by NEC. It bears a striking resemblance to the Nintendo DS. This will be a 7-inch Android 2.1 tablet that should make its way into the Japanese market this October. Key Features: * ARM Cortex A8 CPU * Mobile DDR 256MB * Wi-Fi IEEE802.11b/11g * Bluetooth Ver.2.1 + EDR * 3MP camera * GPS * accelerometer * internal mono mic * internal stereo speakers * SD/SDHC slot, two USB 2.0 ports * 8 hours of battery life Along with the name Lifetouch, this tablet will also go by the name, “Cloud Communicator”. It will be geared towards Japanese business people. There is no mention on what type of screen it has but NEC has said that it could be navigated using a finger or a stylus. This leads me to believe that it is a resistive screen, there’s still a chance that it is capacitive since there are stylus’s for capacitive screens as well. The price and exact release date is unknown at the moment. [ via crunchgear] )

Motorola have taken the wraps off of their latest Android 2.1 smartphone, the 10.9mm thick Motorola XT720, and it’s basically a keyboard-free version of the DROID. Packing an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with Xenon flash and 720p HD video recording, the XT720 also has an HDMI port, 3G/HSPA and a 3.7-inch 480 x 854 capacitive touchscreen. There’s no MOTOBLUR, however, though you do get all the usual Google Android apps together with a trial of MOTONAV. The whole thing measures in at 60.9 x 115.95 x 10.9 mm and has WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, an FM radio, accelerometer, digital compass, GPS and a proximity sensor. The XT720 is set to hit preorder at Expansys, Play and Clove this Friday, with a general release this month. No word on carrier partners at present, nor pricing, and they also won’t confirm when – or if – the smartphone will get an Android 2.2 Froyo update or launch in the US. We’ve shared our first-impressions of the XT720 over at SlashGear , so head over there for the full report. Motorola XT720 hands-on )

Xperia X10 Quickly Becomes NTT DoCoMo’s Top-Selling Smartphone

Let’s face it: no one was all the impressed with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 . No multi-touch , Android 1.6 , and interface issues all seemed to add up to an all around sad Android from SE. Then again, apparently no one in Japan reads Android blogs, as Barclay Capital is reporting that the X10 — known simply as the Xperia in the Land of the Rising Sun — has become the fastest selling smartphone on the Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The X10 racked up an impressive 120,000 handsets sold in the first three weeks after its April launch. This sales rate topped an unspecified HTC Android phone that only moved 80,000 units in the 10 months since its launch on DoCoMo, and even bested the figures of the 32GB iPhone 3GS (though we will assume it didn’t quite overtake the combined sales with the 16GB model). Regardless, the X10 is in high-demand, with its first few shipments selling out quickly and more on the way. Now just imagine if Sony Ericsson released a killer Android 2.1+ device in the Japanese market…sheer pandemonium! [ Xperia X10 Blog via AndroidGuys ]
