Distimo, a Dutch app store analytics firm, has finally completed their research on the six major mobile app stores: iTunes App Store, BlackBerry App World, Google Android Market, Nokia Ovi Store, Palm App Catalog and Windows Marketplace for Mobile.  Their findings analyzed store size, store growth, most popular applications, and where you can find the best deal. The good news for Android users, is that Distimo has determined that Android has the highest percentage of free apps (57%) and has an average of 3,005 new apps written each month. Relative to the number of apps, Android actually has the fastest growing app store of all of them!  Interestingly, in terms of the average price of paid apps, Android, Apple, Nokia, and Palm were all in the same range, while RIM and Microsoft were twice as high.  This is a some good news for Android fans! Let us hope the market continues to grow and apps stay at a reasonable price. Source: Distimo Might We Suggest… Conspiracy Theory: Is Apple Orchestrating a Media Attack on Google? Well folks it seems that the relationship between China and Google has gotten even lower.  According to Android Central, Google has reportedly canceled a Nexus One developer event in Beijing.  Apparently Google was set to introduce the Nexus One along with other latest and greatest Android handsets to  Chinese developers.  Reuters is reporting that the event is still going to be happening in Hong Kong and Taiwan, so it is very likely Google canceled this event out of principle.  Overall, it is not immediately clear how the standoff between China and Google will effect Android adoption in China, but I for one am not hopeful. The official Google Earth application has arrived in the Android Market this morning.  We haven’t seen any news from the Google Mobile blog yet, so we’re trying to dig through a few things.  As of right now, we know it doesn’t show up for Android 1.5 or 1.6 but Nexus One owners have confirmed it to be available.  A few of our twitter followers have indicated that it’s not showing up for them either.  So it appears that it does require Android 2.1 which makes sense to us.  We just saw our first glimpse of it when the Nexus One was unveiled. So for those of you with a Nexus One, head to the Android Market and download.  In the meanwhile, the rest of us will have to wait on an update. Chances are pretty good that you’ve lost your remote control a time or two in the past, be it in the couch cushions or under the bed.  Chances are also pretty good that you almost always know where your cell phone is at a given moment.  Verizon understands this and has announced their FiOS Mobile Remote application for the Motorola Droid. Starting this week, Verizon customers with FiOS TV and a Motorola Droid can use their Android phone to control their HD set-top-box.  All your favorite control features and functions come along for the ride, including changing channels, manage parental controls, pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding or recording TV shows.  On top of that users can transfer individual photos from the phone to the TV or view stored photos in a slide show. Users can also import favorites from the TV to the Droid and then use the phone to pull up these channels on any FiOS TV.  If your phone rings, the Droid will automatically mute the TV for you.  According to Verizon, setup is a breeze.  Download the app from the Android Market and then pair it with the WiFi network using the Mobile Remote Widget on the TV.  Once you register your phone number, you’re off and running! Official eBay App Arrives for Android

The official eBay app for Android is now available in the Android Market. Created for Android 1.6 and above, it lets users do all the typical eBay stuff – search auctions, buy fun things, pay for purchases, check the items you’re selling, leave feedback, and set alerts. As of right now, the application is only available for the US market, but plans are in place to expand that shortly. Here’s a lesser known fact – eBay is one of the founding 34 members of the Open Handset Alliance. Listed as a “software company”, I can’t figure out what it is they bring to the table. My only guess is that it has something to do with Skype somehow. Look for the official eBay application in the Android Market today! The BACKFLIP features a 3.1-inch touch screen, a 5 MP camera with flash, is HSPA 7.2-capable, and can “talk and browse the web at the same time”.    This marks the final of the big four carriers here in the United States to offer an Android handset.  Like the Cliq for T-Mobile and the Devour for Verizon, the BACKFLIP features Motorola’s MOTOBLUR user experience on top of Android.  For more information on the handset, inlcuding pictures and video, AT&T set up a special site at http://www.att.com/backflip .
