Xperia X10 Launching On Rogers Next Week

The X10 no longer has the crown for hottest upcoming Android, and pretty soon (finally) it won’t be “upcoming” in Canada. Last week the carrier sent out an E-Mail saying it would soon be available for pre-order, but that would be a short-lived pre-order has MobileSyrup says the phone should be made available between April 7th and 14th. That’s next week! Plop down $550 straight up, or $150 on a 3-year contract, and the you could be wielding a Maple-powered X10. Whether you’ll want to? Let us know. I’d just like to make a point that the “3-year contract” policy of Canadian carriers is ludicrous. Phones are evolving so quickly that ONE year later your is ancient, after 3 years it may have already crumbled into dust.

Reviews: HTC Desire & Entourage eDGe

A couple pretty interesting reviews popped up today on Engadget and CrunchGear, covering the HTC Desire and Entourage eDGe, respectively. We thought you’d like to hear the scoop so we’ve provided a summarizing snippet of each with links to the full reviews. HTC Desire Review The Desire is yet another fine piece of work from HTC – build quality is as usual, and there’s little to complain about the software except for the Flash performance. Some may argue that the Desire lacks freshness since the ’s already shown it all, but we’d disagree – at the end of the day it’s mainly about the software and service, plus the Desire is available from more carriers to begin with (outside the US, anyway). [ Read the full review ] Entourage eDGe Dualbook Review The enTourage eDGe is a functional, easy-to-use device that currently defies formal classification. It’s primarily going to be useful to academics and who spend a lot of time in books, but need more convenience than that offered by separate e-book reader and laptop. It has some warts, but offers surprising value in a first-generation device. [ Read the full review ]

LG Aloha: Say Hello To A High-End LG Android

April 1, 2010 by MrAndroid

The most vigorous adopters on the manufacturing side have been HTC, Motorola and now Samsung. Ericsson tried to get onboard awhile back but seem to be paddling themselves in circles, while LG has only released/announced a couple Android phones ( LG Eve , LG Swift) – all on the lower end side of things. The rumored LG Aloha seeks to break that trend. A recent User Agent Profile combined with a Wi-Fi certificate for the LG C710 ( PDF ) give us more than enough evidence to think the LG Aloha is for real. That isn’t necessarily saying it will come to fruition, but if it does, it could include: 800?480 pixel touchscreen 65,000 color display WiFi 802.11b/g/n GPRS, UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA The kicker here is that while all the high-end Androids rolling out after the Motorola Droid are full touchscreen (Desire, EVO 4G, Galaxy S, Incredible, Nexus One , Xperia X10) the LG Aloha is rumored to have a full QWERTY keyboard. Personally, we would welcome LG into the realm of higher-end Androids, and hopefully that full QWERTY is remniscient of the . Yes, please. [Via Tweakers ]

First Look: HTC EVO 4G for Sprint [VIDEO]

We’ve seen a few “promotional” videos for the EVO 4G , but up until now, they’ve all been rather mediocre and sloppily put together. But now, HTC has released a more whole-hearted effort and illustrating the beauty and capabilities of the EVO. For  your viewing pleasure, a clip that does the device a little more justice: The spot is 1.5 minutes long, so it isn’t likely to be used as an actual commercial, but we’re expecting Sprint and HTC to promote the HECK out of this thing so I’m eager to see what their television-ready ad will look like.

Droid 2.1 OTA Rolling Out Over “Next Few Weeks”

A small sample of Motorola Droid owners have gotten the Official .1 OTA with the rest either choosing to manually install Android 2.1 the backdoor way or wait patiently for the real deal. If you’re in the latter group, you may want to try out the manual upgrade if you don’t feel like waiting a few weeks as the Motorola support forums indicate that’s how long it COULD take to reach your device: We are pleased to announce the much anticipated DROID 2.1 upgrade has begun rolling out. The roll out will happen in phases and will be delivered to your DROID over the course of the next few weeks. While some LOVE the new features and others GRIPE about the lack of additional homescreens and uselessness of Live Wallpapers, I think one item absolutely makes this update amazing – text-to-speech in more places: As many of you know, 2.1 will bring several enhancements to your DROID. These include pinch to zoom for , speech to text functionality, a new and improved photo gallery and dynamic live wallpapers. For the pure purpose of reading text messages out loud while I drive and have them converted to text for quick, accurate and safe messaging – I’m elated to get this update. The 2.1 update has been a big topic the last few months and, although it didn’t go off without a hitch, Motorola is certainly making efforts to improve their customer experience and support, and  you can’t forget that Verizon had a hand in this as well: We sincerely apologize for what we know has been a frustrating experience for you regarding communications on the status of the upgrade. We want to reassure all of our fans that we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible service and we have been listening to each and every one of your comments. To that end, we excited to announce we will be launching a Support tab on our Facebook page in the next two weeks as well as dedicating more resources to answer your inquiries. We hope it will become a valuable asset where we can not only directly address your technical questions but also provide a place for you to share ideas with one another, report problems and give us general feedback. Now that you know it might take a few weeks… will you try out the manual 2.1 upgrade ?

Samsung Galaxy S Launching In June For $1,000+

April 1, 2010 by MrAndroid

Over at MobileReview ( translated ) they’ve gotten their hands on the scorching hot Samsung Galaxy S and have provided a full review that, even after jumping the language hurdle, seems pretty insightful. The thing that leaps out the most is a more specific price and date, something that has yet to be officially announced. The Galaxy S will in June for 30,000 Rubles in Russia which is the equivalent of over $1,000 USD. Uhoh… we hope it doesn’t arrive in the Americas at such an inflated price. Even after contract and rebate, that would be a hefty price to pay. And with the HTC EVO 4G for Sprint being another obvious option, price should be a huge point of contention between these two Phones. Although with Russian commentary, we thought you might like to see the video they did as it compares the Galaxy S to some devices and runs through some of the screens and options: I think$1,000 unsubsidized and even $500 subsidized is a fee that most Android fans won’t want the burden of enduring, but I’m hopeful that Samsung and whatever partners they choose will find a way to bring the Galaxy S to market more affordably than this initially rumored price.

Samsung Galaxy S Pro With Keyboard Rumored

There are touchscreen only fans and hardware keyboard fans and some folks are adamant about having it one way or another. That’s why when an amazing mobile phone like the – or in this case the Galaxy S – are announced, one knee-jerk reaction is to wonder what the phone would be like if they offered an alternate version. We’re all familiar with the practice of adding a slideout QWERTY and slapping a “Pro” on to the end of the name, and that is exactly what HDBlog.it are suggesting will happen with the Samsung Galaxy above picture is only a mock-up and is NOT real. But, rumor has it a phone that looks very similar to the Galaxy S will add the keyboard and start selling in late summer, after the original S has been on the market a couple months. Is there any truth to the rumor? No way of knowing. Would you be happy if the rumor came true? Different question completely… and one that I’d love for YOU to answer. View Poll Whether it will ever exist? That’s merely a matter of opinion for folks like you and me.

Gigabyte Boston Android Phone Headed To Orange [Codfish]

Earlier this month we saw the Gigabyte Codfish swim onto the Android scene with a 5MP camera, 3.2-inch screen, very few details and nothing official. The company DOES produce a line of mobile called GSmart but they all seem to run on Mobile, with this “leak” being their first Android attempt. Consider the effort escalated as the Bluetooth SIG just listed the device . Interestingly enough, the name seems to have changed from Codfish to Boston and the carrier (or company URL in this case) has been listed as Orange. Yet again, details are absent, but this is a solid sign that the Gigabyte Boston/Codfish GSmart Android is on the way. And with a name like GSmart, don’t you think Android fits the company better than Windows Mobile anyways?
