Reviews: HTC Desire & Entourage eDGe

A couple pretty interesting reviews popped up today on Engadget and CrunchGear, covering the HTC Desire and , respectively. We thought you’d like to hear the scoop so we’ve provided a summarizing snippet of each with links to the full reviews. HTC Desire Review The Desire is yet another fine piece of work from HTC – build quality is top notch as usual, and there’s little to complain about the software except for the Flash performance. Some may argue that the Desire lacks freshness since the One ’s already shown it all, but we’d disagree – at the end of the day it’s mainly about the software and service, plus the Desire is available from more carriers to begin with (outside the US, anyway). [ Read the full review ] Entourage eDGe Dualbook Review The enTourage eDGe is a functional, easy-to-use device that currently defies formal classification. It’s primarily going to be useful to academics and people who spend a lot of time in books, but need more convenience than that offered by separate e-book reader and laptop. It has some warts, but offers surprising value in a -generation device. [ Read the full review ]

Desire and Legend Rooted Already

Desire and Legend Rooted Already

Well, looks like it has happened again. Modaco, the same guy that rooted the Nexus One before it was released, just achieved root on the and Legend before they have been released. HTC must’ve gotten wind of this because they are now working on an update to the Desire’s firmware which will most likely patch this exploit before it is released. Modaco is likely working on custom ROM’s for both devices and porting them to other devices. It shouldn’t be long before we have a perfect ROM for our Nexus One’s. I’m sure the was already in the making but the reason above seems cooler. [via twitter ]

Here’s an item that probably wishes was just an April Fool’s joke. The ITC has agreed to investigate Apple’s patent complaints against HTC. First Look: HTC EVO 4G for Sprint [VIDEO]

We’ve seen a few “promotional” videos for the HTC , but up until now, they’ve all been rather mediocre and sloppily put together. But now, HTC has released a more whole-hearted effort and illustrating the beauty and capabilities of the EVO. For  your viewing pleasure, a clip that does the device a little more justice: The spot is 1.5 minutes long, so it isn’t likely to be used as an actual commercial, but we’re expecting and HTC to promote the HECK out of this thing so I’m eager to see what their television-ready ad will look like.

3 UK HTC Desire arrives April 20th

UK carrier 3 have announced that they’ll be the next network to offer the HTC Desire , with the smartphone arriving on Tuesday April 20th.  Priced from free on a £35 monthly agreement or £349.99 on pay-as-you-go, the Desire will be initially sold as a generic device with the 3-branded version rocking up on May 3rd. However, apparently 3 users of either the generic or branded Desires will be able to download 3’s apps from the Android Market and use them as normal, so unless you particularly want the carrier’s logo on your phone there’s no reason to wait.  Upgrades for are also available, of course, though you’ll have to ring customers services to find out exactly how much it might set you back.
