FarmVille on Nexus One Signals Death of Productivity [VIDEO]
Taimur Asad of Redmond Pie has been playing with the HTC Desire ROM on his Nexus One these last few days. As many of you might know, it features Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 as part of the build. So what’s the best way to test out how well that works? Log into Facebook and play FarmVille , of course. As you’ll see in the video, it runs pretty well. Taimur admits that prior to playing with it on the Nexus One, he hadn’t even tried out FarmVille. That explains his hesitation and awkwardness in the clip. While it sounds great at first, games like this might not translate as well onto a 4-inch screen as we’d hoped. If any of you play any Facebook games on a netbook, you can attest to the difference between a 10-inch screen and a full blown 19″ or larger monitor. Still, this does help give you that quick fix not currently available on any other platform. Fast-Acting Hacker Makes Nexus One More ‘Desire’-able
Paul O’Brien, f ounder of MoDaCo , has been a busy little boy. In what feels like only a matter of hours, he’s been able to flash an unofficial ROM from the HTC Desire onto a Nexus One . And just to prove things, he snapped a pic of it in action. According to Paul, it almost everything is operational and Adobe’s Flash 10.1 “works well” so far. It took a little juggling and tweaking (removing some code), but he’s been able to run it without issues. Among the items he’s confirmed to be working are, the trackball, the 4 bottom keys, proximity sensor, LED, light sensor, compass and G sensor. Heck the camera;s face recognition and touch focus work too! As of now, he has decided not to release this ROM into the wild because of a watermark found within its walls. Fret not though, as we can’t be that far off from the full-fledged ROM. Sit tight you rooted Nexus One owners! HTC’s Sense Adds Pinch Zooming on Android 2.1 Home Screen [VIDEO]
Ask around and you’ll find that most Android enthusiasts are fans of what HTC did with Sense UI. Rather than pumping out stock Android handsets void of any character, they poured all kinds of things into Android. Not only did it refresh the interface, but it added features as well. Sense is not just a skin on top of Android. So as the plain vanilla Android experience continues to evolve and get prettier, what happens to Sense? Nick over at HTC Source happened upon a video this morning that shows Android 2.1 running with Sense on top of it. The guy in this sideway video is running the latest release on his Hero. Where Google’s WebOS-like cards give added function to the desktop experience, HTC gives it a slight boost. Skip to around 6:50 into the clip below and you’ll see a pinch-to-zoom feature that pulls all 7 homescreens up with previews. Tap the widget or screen and presto! You’re there. Yes, we know. Swiping doesn’t take all that long to get from one end to the other. It’s still nice to see HTC doing their part to push Android further. Might We Suggest… First Look at Android 2.1 Screen Shots The first few images of Android 2.1 have made their way online and we’re more than pleased to share them. These pictures allegedly come from an HTC Hero running the newest build of Android. We’re …

Canadian HTC Magic Gets Sense UI and 911 Fix
The first of 2 upgrades to the Canadian HTC Magic is officially underway. The two updates spoken about in an earlier post stated that the first of the 2 updates would be a 911 fix and the much appraised HTC Sense UI. The second which will be released mid-summer is the full upgrade to Android 2.1 to keep it up-to-date with the latest Android version. The update is available on the Rogers website and requires a little more than a basic knowledge of the computer to install it. Thankfully Rogers Wireless has included instructions that make the process “bearable” to say the least. The instructions specifically state that you should put 20 minutes aside for this process; although with the internet connection I’m on right now it looks like it’s going to be 20 min to just download the update! The link to the update is here . * Win7 and Mac users please see your special directions below. Choose your phone as either the HTC Dream or Magic. While this update has some people cautious about downloading it, wondering whether it will affect their “rooted/modded” status, most will be happy to find out that they will receive a one month’s credit of data fee’s due to the inconveneience. A big point of controversy for this upgrade is that users who do not upgrade quickly enough will have their data services disconnected until the update is completed. Enjoy your Sense UI! And working 911 calls! Woot Woot! Win7 and Mac Users Upgrade Instructions: Requirements: Rogers Magic Battery Level of 50% or more. Do not start upgrade if battery level less than 50% MicroSD card formatted in FAT32, please note cards formatted in FAT will not work. Installing the Update via MicroSD Card: Part1 The first part will prepare the device for the actual update but will not upgrade the Operating System, the upgrade itself will be performed in Part2. 1) Download the HTC_Magic_Update_File1.zip and extract the file within, SAPPIMG.zip to the root of the memory card in this form, do not extract it’s contents and please do not change the file name. 2) Backup your personal data: All personal data (contacts, applications, photos, bookmarks, etc) stored on the device will be lost after the update process. There are also 3rd party applications on Android Market place to back up your applications and personal data. 3) Power off the device. 4) Remove the existing microSD card from your device (if there is one already installed), press in on the microSD Card to eject it and then remove it from the slot. Insert the microSD card with the SAPPIMG.zip on it in the microSD slot, slide it into the slot until you feel a “click”. 5) Press and hold the Volume Down Button and the Power buttons until the display turns white. 6) The update will begin installing, please follow any onscreen instructions, press the trackball when prompted to press “Action” 7. Once the update is complete, “Press Action to Complete” will be displayed on the screen, press the TrackBall for the device to reboot and complete the first part of the upgrade process. 8. Power off the device to prepare for the step 2 below. Part 2 Upgrading the device. 1) Delete the SAPPIMG.zip from the microSD card 2) Download the HTC_Magic_Update_File2.zip and extract the file within, SAPPIMG.zip to the root of the memory card in this form, do not extract it’s contents. Cyanogen “Whips Up” Multitouch for Nexus One
One of the most popular Android hackers has just made one the most popular Android handsets a touch* better. Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen , has figured out how to implement multi-touch into the web browser of the Nexus One. If you’re among the 20,000 or so people who have a Nexus One, you can do this yourself . You will, of course, have to root your handset. In the meanwhile, Steve is hard at work on getting multi-touch to work within other aspects of the Nexus One. *See what we did there?
